From the 21st April 2015, businesses with a ‘mobile friendly’ website will be favoured by Google in search results.
We can see why – 70% of initial searches are on a mobile device. It’s great that Google are rewarding websites that respond to the device on which they’re being viewed – how many times have you gone online on your phone only to find the site you wish to view has content missing, is hard to navigate or is completely unreadable? Frustrating, isn’t it?
But what does this mean for your website? Well… if you have a fully responsive website then good news, Google will show it’s appreciation by bumping you up the search engine rankings. If you don’t – and you can find out here if you do – then you might find you start to slip down the list – with responsive competitors overtaking you on the rankings. Not ideal!
Since GetOnIT began web design in Bournemouth in 2001, we’ve seen web design go through many phases. Mostly these changes come about because Google has changed the way its search engine works. When we started out, emphasis was on keywords – as this got you up the SEO ladder – and so the fashionable website was packed with keywords which didn’t give a great user experience. Fast forward 14 years and the web design and SEO industry has changed vastly for the better!
Possibly the most important development is the upcoming emphasis Google will be placing on responsive designing. Here at GetOnIT every website we design will be 100% usable on all devices, PC, tablet and phone. Whilst unresponsive websites come in cheaper, ultimately they give a poor ROI. Users will find it harder to navigate your site and Google will push it down the ranks. These issues combined do not make for a successful website, although you may save money having a non-responsive site created you may lose money due to its limited functionality for users.
If you are looking for a responsive web design company to create you a fully responsive sleek new website then contact GetOnIT now on 01202 298 882. We will be happy to answer any questions or queries you may have.
