How much is it
to maintain a website and are there any hidden costs.?

With GetOnIt.co.uk
there are no hidden costs to any website project. We use a system of
Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels for our base websites plus all and
any extra elements that you may want on your website will be clearly
quoted for and can usually be viewed on this website. There are two costs that
are ongoing to keep your website live. These are dealt with on an
annual and bi-annual basis. These are your web hosting costs and domain name registration
respectively. Currently domain name
registration is every 2 years from date of registration. The hosting
costs are paid yearly to GetOnIt and do vary depending on the type
of website you have. See our

So what is
domain name registration and why do I have to pay every 2 years.?

Your domain name
was either bought for you as part of one of our packages or you may
have bought it yourself through another company. The reason why you
have to keep paying a fee is to effectively keep it 'Live'. Many
people have bought a domain name (i.e. MyCompany@BigISPnet.co.uk) and
have subsequently let their registrations lapse. This means that
this "Name" is then available for anyone worldwide to buy. Should
they do so this "Name" would then become their property. The reason
you keep paying a 2 yearly fee is to keep this name "ACTIVE" for
you.

What is Hosting and why do I
pay a yearly fee.? |

Hosting a website is essentially
the amount of space your website takes up on the "Host" computer.
Our computers are in Tele House London. Each one can only hold a
certain number of websites. In order to keep these computers running
we need to charge an annual fee. These fees are set and are directly
relevant to the type of website you have with us. For instance a
small website (1 page) will have only a small fee and a larger
website with database and e-commerce facilities will have a
proportionately larger
fee.
Furthermore... there are many free servers out there but
there is a greater price to be paid, such as... Your website may
have to display several banner advertisements in a heading space
(you will not have a choice about this) + with so many websites being
hosted on the same computer, this slows down access to your website
considerably. This is frustrating for viewers and there is no
support or maintenance in the (likely) event of computer shutdowns or crashes
etc...

Can I upgrade my basic web page
to a full blown website.? |
| A. |
Yes you can.
Simply call us with your requirements and we will let you know the costs
involved. These are normally lower than our standard packages
because we have already done some of the work for you in your basic
package. Should you choose to, you can upgrade the website yourself
or use another web company to upgrade your website. We will still
host it for you but you will need additional elements such as FTP
access to your web space in order to upload the new website.
(Charges may apply for FTP access or domain transfer)

So what is FTP ? |

FTP is an upload program which
can access the host computer and upload your latest additions or
changes. You can download free program's to do this off this

Can I have an automatic
response message if someone sends me an email |

Yes you can - we can set up an
auto responder from your POP 3 mailbox to automatically relay a
message to your sender. Normally this consists of "Have received
your email and will be responding to it soon. cost for this service:
A one off £15+VAT administration charge.
